We look forward to welcoming you on screen on 7th June.

The Vulnerability Registration Service has introduced an ‘Unpaid Carer’ flag to its dataset in order to alert organisations if their customer is facing the challenges associated with caring for a loved one.  Carers are frequently rendered time-poor, suffer impact upon their own mental health as a result of providing relentless support for others but also placed in financial difficulty because of the low rate of Carers’ Allowance and the inability to work.

There are 5 million unpaid carers in the UK according to the 2021 Census  saving the UK economy £162 billion a year (Petrillo and Bennet 2023).   The maximum they will receive from Carers’ Allowance is £81.90 a week if the hours of care exceed 35 a week.  If somebody earns in excess of £151 a week after tax or receive certain other benefits (including State Pension) those individuals are no longer eligible.   According to Turn2Us there carers are missing out on £1.5 billion of unclaimed benefits and yet the National Audit Office has stated that the DWP is trying to reclaim £150 million in overpaid benefits from 80,000 carers – 56% of the overpayments are less than £1000.

Join our virtual event on the 7th June when we will be discussing the challenges faced by Unpaid Carers and how, as service providers, we may be able to offer some much needed support.

This event will be hosted by Absolutely Admin Solutions.
